My work since I started design and illustration 8 years ago has been mostly digital. Digital is a convenient and forgiving medium, you can hit Cmd+Z as many times as you need (or until Illustrator decides to crash) and you can change colours on the fly. Easy, fast, accessible.
However, I have recently started feeling that while digital illustration is great (and fast and forgiving) it is lacking that human touch at times and it’s not really… tangible. Well this succession of truisms pushed me to start a new canvas in over a dozen years.
It is based on one of my sketches, which was prompted by recent developments in Romanian politics. (Will very likely ramble about this on a different occasion, but just in case you didn’t know, I was born and raised and schooled in Romania and moved to the UK a couple of years ago. Hence the interest in Romanian politics of all).
I think it’s nearing completion, and bar the inherent mistakes caused by a shaking hand and learning to use acrylics (which I had never used before) I am pretty happy with it so far. If anything it’s a really nice getaway form all the day to day business and clients asking me to make logos bigger.
